The most important festival in the Tibetan year marks the anniversary of both the Buddha's Enlightenment and Parinirvana (earthly death). Mount Kailash is the most sacred place to celebrate and we have a special departure timed to join the pilgrims on the Kailash kora and at the raising of the new flag pole at Tarboche.

Bhutan, the “Land of the Thunder Dragon”, jealously guards its lifestyles and traditions.

Nestled deep in the eastern Himalaya, unknown to much of the world, it is a land of magnificent mountains, lush valleys, thick forests, a serene lifestyle and traditions unchanged for centuries. Towns are tiny, little more than villages, with quiet streets lined by decorative shops and houses. Colorful prayer flags highlight natural and man-made features of the landscape, adorning houses and bridges; standing atop ridges and mountain passes and in forest clearings.

The tsechu is a festival in honour of Guru Rinpoche. Each dance commemorates an episode in his life.Dancers wear spectacular costumes, often decorated with carved bone. For certain dances, they wear masks representing animals, fear-some deities, skulls and manifestations of Guru Rimpoche. The dates & the duration of tsechus vary from one district to another.

Mongolia is a word evocative of vast open spaces, of nomadic herders and the thundering “devil's horsemen” of Genghis Khan.

One of Earth's last remaining wilderness frontiers, largely inaccessible to western travelers until recently, Mongolia offers a rare glimpse of an ancient nomadic culture that has changed little over the centuries.
Discover in this untouched land the rare combination of ancient Buddhist traditions, a nomadic horse-based culture and an incredible natural beauty - high mountains, vast grasslands, volcanic lakes and the expanses of the harsh Gobi Desert.

The main event of the year in Ulaanbataar is the Naadam Festival - although primarily a sports event, the atmosphere and mass-gathering of people make this a great time to be here.
